NEW YORK - The U.S. economy continues its impressive performance, with the Department of Labor reporting that unemployment has fallen to 3.2%, the lowest level in 15 years, as employers added 425,000 jobs in January alone.
The strong employment numbers were accompanied by wage growth of 4.8% year-over-year, outpacing inflation and providing real income gains for American workers across most sectors.
Job creation was particularly strong in healthcare, technology, renewable energy, and manufacturing sectors. The construction industry also showed significant gains, adding 78,000 positions as infrastructure projects ramp up nationwide.
'The American economy is firing on all cylinders,' noted the Federal Reserve Chair. 'We're seeing broad-based growth that's reaching communities across the country.'
Consumer confidence has reached a five-year high, with retail sales increasing 6.2% over the past year. The stock market responded positively to the news, with major indices reaching new record highs.
Economists project continued strong performance throughout 2026, though some caution that global economic uncertainties and geopolitical tensions could pose challenges.
