Across Africa, one of the biggest developing stories remains the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where health efforts are now being complicated by violence in the east of the country. Reports say rebel attacks have killed dozens of people and disrupted the response just as international health officials race to contain the disease.
The crisis is drawing growing concern because the outbreak may have begun months earlier than initially understood, giving the virus a dangerous head start. Health agencies are pushing vaccines, treatment and community cooperation, but insecurity on the ground is making containment much harder.
The DRC outbreak is now shaping the wider African news agenda because it combines two of the continent’s most urgent challenges: armed conflict and public health vulnerability. How quickly authorities can restore access and trust may determine whether the crisis is brought under control or spreads further.
