The world has lost more than a legendary singer and songwriter. We have lost a treasured voice of compassion, faith, humility, perseverance, and hope. Dolly’s golden, peaceful voice crossed borders, cultures, generations, and social divisions.

The Coat of Many Colors

“Coat of Many Colors” was more than a song. It was the testimony of a poor child whose mother transformed pieces of discarded cloth into a garment of love.

The coat had little material value, but it carried something money could never purchase: a mother’s sacrifice, tenderness, dignity, and devotion. Through that simple coat, Dolly reminded the world that poverty does not mean the absence of love, worth, or purpose.

Her story taught millions that poverty may describe where a person begins, but it does not determine where that person will end.

A Voice and Legacy That Will Remain

Dolly’s songs will continue to transport grown men and women back to their childhoods—to their mothers, fathers, families, and the communities that made them who they are.

She has gone home to rest, but her music, generosity, wisdom, and example remain with us.
