The New York Knicks opened the 2026 NBA Finals with a statement win on the road, rallying past the San Antonio Spurs 105-95 in Game 1 on Wednesday night at Frost Bank Center.
Jalen Brunson led the comeback with 30 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter, as New York erased a 14-point third-quarter deficit and seized control late. Brunson delivered in the biggest moments, helping the Knicks finish the game on an 11-0 run and silence a San Antonio crowd that looked ready to celebrate an opening victory.
The Spurs appeared to have the upper hand for long stretches. San Antonio built a 65-51 lead in the third quarter and got a strong performance from Victor Wembanyama, who finished with 26 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Stephon Castle added 17 points, while Julian Champagnie and Dylan Harper each scored 16.
But the Knicks stayed within reach and turned the game in the final period. Karl-Anthony Towns added 18 points and 12 rebounds, OG Anunoby scored 17 points, and New York protected the ball well in the closing stretch while San Antonio faltered offensively.
One of the key storylines was Brunson’s toughness. He battled through knee and ankle scares in the first half, returned, and then took over when the game was on the line. His late shot-making and poise gave New York the edge in a tense finish.
For the Knicks, the win extends their playoff surge and gives them an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. For the Spurs, Game 1 showed both the promise of their young core and the need to finish stronger against a battle-tested opponent.
Game 2 is set for Friday night in San Antonio, where the Spurs will try to respond before the series shifts to New York.
